The overall process in solid oxide fuel and electrolysis cells is a complex network of steps like transport of gas, ions, & electrons, and reactions, which all proceed in the specific layers of the cells: cathode, electrolyte, and anode. Therefore, these layers are made of different materials and have different structures.
