Power output

The power output of a fuel cell is the product of voltage times current.

The figure shows a typical trend for solid oxide fuel cells: the higher the current (ampere), the lower the voltage (volt) due to losses (resistances) in the cell. The better a cell, the smaller are the losses, the flatter is the current-voltage curve and the larger is the power output.
